The Lord uses me to teach believers. I have not been, to date, used to proclaim the Gospel to the unsaved. That is undertaken by others.
Rather, what our Heavenly Father has chosen to work in me and by His Holy Spirit to flow through me is teaching that centers on three primary truths centered in four core Scriptures:
God’s desire to be understood and known – “This is what the Lord says: ‘Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me…’” (Jeremiah 9:23-24)
God’s perfect model of total surrender and dependency lived by Jesus Christ – “By Myself I [Jesus] can do nothing…” (John 5:30a)
Christ’s call to us to be precisely like Him in complete surrender and total dependency – “Apart from Me [Jesus] you can do nothing.” (John 15:5b) and “Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My [Jesus] disciple.” (Luke 14:33b)
These essential truths permeate all of the Bible. Literally hundreds of Scriptures all illuminate and reveal these very concrete, very practical, very mystical and completely available realities.
We are repeatedly shown throughout Scripture the human struggle to understand and know God, to believe that there is a completely different way to live, and to give up all control to the management of Another.
By contrasting God’s view of life with our view of life, we can clearly see where the conflict between our differing views exists. His work is to bring us into oneness with Himself and our job is to allow that to take place.
In order to become what God originally created us to be, and then restored us to be in Christ, we must trust God, wait on God, and be humble before God and others.
By God’s grace and choosing, I have been privileged to teach Christians about this life of trust here in the United States, as well as in Peru, Belize, and Haiti. Through seminars, long- and short-term classes and sermons, various subjects have included:
Intimacy with God
Well Done! How to Know You Are Getting It Right
Pillars of Trust: Patience and Humility
Spirit Led: The Eclipsing of Enthusiasm
The Soil, The Life, The Fruit, The Care: Cultivating Transformation
Passion of a Disciple
Contentment
Faith Living
It is my prayer that I may always be available and deployed as my Father and Friend chooses and enables. May He always be glorified and delighted to continually reveal His completely vulnerable, loving heart to me and to others through me.
Recommendation:
I have had the privilege of being taught by Bryan on a few occasions. One week he led our team in study each morning before we went into the Amazonian mission field in the afternoon. He used a powerful mixture of lecture, small groups, and One-on-one quiet time with God, encouraging us to intimately pray and journal. It was such a deeply moving time, and how we served was a natural outpouring from God through us. It was centered on God's heart. That is key to his teaching.
Other times I have taken his Bible studies at church. He likes to challenge us by giving us thought provoking topics through readings from the 1800s. Then he weaves bible verses around to give us a deeper understanding of God's origin of each concept. He challenges us to make radical changes when we understand God's nature and His heart. His teachings are always quite powerful as they reach us individually where we are.
